CAGE is Commercial and Government Entity. CAGE is also known as Commercial Activity / Government Entity or Contractor and Government Entity. It is a five, all character code. It is a special code assigned to many companies who would like to apply for government or defense contracts. It helps in identifying a given facility at a specific location.

Whenever these companies want to send an application for securing such contracts, they have to furnish their CAGE codes. Only companies with these codes assigned to them can promote and market their products and service to government or defense bodies. So basically a CAGE code identifies a contractor.

There is a simple procedure to get the CAGE code. The first step is completing your registration at the Department of Defense’s Central Contractor Registration (CCR). This is a requirement for doing business with government or defense bodies. As soon as you register yourself, you get a CAGE code. Then your registration is activated. As soon as the registration is activated you can carry out a CAGE code search online, as soon as you log in to your CCR account. This online procedure has become very simple. Earlier contractors had to fill out separate forms, physically, at every procurement location. Now they just have to fill one form online, get the CAGE code and carry out the transaction.

To carry out a CAGE code search, you have to log in to your CCR account and you can view your CAGE code. You can also search for a CAGE code on the Business Identification Number Cross – Reference System (BINCS). There are some websites that also assist you with CAGE code search if the CCR is stagnant so that you can search for a code outside CCR as well.
